Heavily influenced by graffiti, Ariq Syauqi uses the moniker Marsnev when creating artworks. He believes that art should be valued on its own merits, independent of the artist’s background. However, as his professional presence grows, especially in academic contexts, using his real name has become unavoidable. Even so, he kindly asks that you respect the boundaries of his personal profile.
After studying linguistics during his bachelor’s years, Marsnev earned a master’s in typeface design from the University of Reading, under the guidance of Gerry Leonidas, Fiona Ross, and Fred Smeijers. He is currently based in Nancy, France, where he is a researcher at the Atelier National de Recherche Typographique, focusing on the typographic representation of minority scripts. He runs his own foundry releasing original fonts as well as works closely with renowned type designers. You can read more in his CV available here.
